To apply for an open position, you'll be prompted to create an account and application through the state's centralized Recruitment Management System (RMS). To create an account for the first time, you can can choose to either create an application from scratch or import information from LinkedIn. After creating your application once, you'll be able to apply for opportunities at Virginia Tax and across the Commonwealth's 200 government agencies. 

Types of Employment

  • Full-time classified employees normally work 40 hours per week and have a full compliment of state employee benefits.
  • Part-time classified employees usually work 20-39 hours per week and have pro-rated state employee benefits.
  • Wage employees are paid on an hourly basis with a 1,500 limit in a 365 calendar day period and state benefits do not apply.
  • Internships may be either paid on an hourly basis or unpaid, have opportunities to gain valuable work experiences over a specified time, and state employee benefits do not apply.
